Cranial Osteopathy
A US Osteopath developed Cranial Osteopathy called Dr William Garner Sutherland in the 1930’s.
According to Dr Sutherland, the cranium (skull) bones, which are separate in babies and young children, retain some flexibility into adulthood. He also believed that the cerebrospinal fluid – the fluid surrounding the brain – has a pulse known as the cranial rhythmic impulse (CRI).
Disturbances to this CRI reflect pressures on the cranium, or injuries or tensions in the body, which can be eased by gentle manipulation of the cranial and spinal bones.
Cranial Osteopathy can be used to treat many of the same ailments as Osteopathy. It is particularly useful for babies and young children – especially colic, glue ear and recurrent infections.
Treatment is especially useful in treating the following health conditions:
back pain, coeliac disease, colic, dysmenorrhoea, endometriosis, glue ear, headaches, IBS, indigestion, insomnia, menorrhagia, migraines, peptic ulcers, PMS, sinusitis, stress, tinnitus.
