Traditional Chinese Medicine is approximately 2,000 years old. It consists of acupuncture, moxibustion, herbal medicine, acupressure, cupping, therapeutic exercise and nutrition. Traditional Chinese Medicine is based on the principle of internal balance and harmony, chi or “life force”, yin and yang and the five elements. The chi is regulated through the meridians or “energy channels” by the interdependent forces of yin (female) energy and yang (male energy). It is the job of the practitioner to bring yin and yang back into balance and so regulate the flow of chi through the system, restoring health and harmony.
Traditional Chinese Medicine is especially useful in treating the following health conditions:
Arthritis, allergies (such as asthma, eczema, hayfever), anxiety, back pain, bronchitis, chronic fatigue syndrome, dermatitis, digestive problems (such as coeliac disease, colitis, constipation, crohn’s disease, diarrhoea, IBS, indigestion, peptic ulcers), headaches, high blood pressure, insomnia, irritable bowel syndrome, menstrual problems (such as dysmenorrhoea, endometriosis, menopause, menorrhagia, PMS), migraines, psoriasis, sinusitis, stress, ulcers, urinary problems (such as cystitis, incontinence, non-specific urethritis).
